An integral part of the gear that powers the world
Colombia has the biggest coal resources in Latin America and ranks fifth in steam coal exports around the world. Colombian coal is internationally recognized for its low-ash content and high calorific value. It also meets worldwide sulfur regulations and has very low sulfur dioxide emissions compared to other forms of coal.
Total coal production in Colombia for 2011 was of 85 million tons. By 2013, the country expects to surpass the 100 million tons production mark, 95 percent of which will be destined for exporting, thanks in part to major investments in infrastructure, production and facility modernization.
Colombia produces high-quality B-type Steam, Metallurgical and Anthracite coal. Steam coal makes up for nearly 95% of coal production in Colombia.
